A relaxing weekend at Salem

Salem is about an hour south of Hillsboro and so we decide to have a short and relaxing one day trip there. The first stop when we reached Salem is the Historic Deepwood Gardens, which boasting lush English style gardens. The garden is free to stroll and take photos but the admission to Queen Anne Victorian Home cost US$5 per  adult. We were unlucky that there was no noon tour of the house on that Sunday, which normally it does. Despite not able to visit the lovely house, we still having a great time taking photos of the garden and spent a good one hour there. Next, we headed to Oregon State Capitol. Again, my fault for not do a proper research upfront, it was closed on weekends. We can't see a single car at the car park, except ours :) Anyway, the surrounding area are also very picturesque with the "walk of flag", the sculpture and the fountain. We then stop for lunch before continue our journey to River Front Park. It was interesting to find out that most of the restaurants in the city are closed on Sunday. We have no choice but to simply find a Chinese Restaurant which was opened to have our lunch. The food was not good but it's cheap. After the lunch, my daughter is feeling sleepy and by the time we reached our next destination, the River Front Park, she has slept. This gave me a chance to spent an hour's romantic and peaceful time with my hubby. :)
What a relaxing day we have had and the best is, we never spent a penny on this trip except the usual food and gas...
